How do you go about driving more traffic to a new web shop?
Submitted to search engines etc, but it seems to be taking forever to get noticed on them. Is there any easy way of getting traffic to the site that doesn’t cost much?

Ok so basically i need a good way to send traffic to my site fast. I need targeted traffic too not any of that autosurf random traffic does anyone have any suggestions??

You can try Google Adwords. It’s the most effective and targeted way of Advertising. Although it can be expensive but I know 1 Person here on Yahoo answers who is giving 1000$ of adwords coupons for 25$.

I have built a website called www.memoirland.com. Had read some forums to learn how to advertise my website. Tried google ad, buy traffic, introduce to friends, build an affiliate program, but still cannot get a high traffic. Very much appreciated if someone can give me advice on how to advertise my website effectively.

Advertising alone does not make a website famous. Having a great product does. Remember Pets.com? You may not, even though they did HUGE advertising campaigns with a fairly adorable sock-puppet dog on television. All that money, and guess what happened? They went out of business. Why? They didn’t have what the people wanted.

Are you sure that your website fills a need that people have? How do you know? Most small businesses are built by people who just have an idea they think is cool – not an idea for something people really want.

Who is your customer? Why do they need your product? What else does your customer do that might allow you to target your advertising better? Can you offer anything to bring in your customers? (Discounts, coupon codes, promotions, etc.)

Just "buying a domain and building a site and advertising it" isn’t usually anywhere near enough.

I am interested in traffic control and am wondering how do i become one and what are the qualifications one needs to obtain such a job.

There are 3 ways to do this in the US and you have to be under 30-31 in order to start.
1) Join the military with an MOS as an air traffic controller; this does not guarantee that you will make it into that occupational speciality and does not guarantee employment with the FAA
2) Attend a college or university that is recognized for producing air traffic controllers; there are 31 of these in the US (ironic since you can’t be older than 31 to start)
3) Attend a college and obtain a bachelor’s degree (science/mathematics focus is better) and apply for the program with the FAA

This still doesn’t mean you will work as an ATCS an ATCT at the airport but you will get that experience during training. You may find yourself in Leesburg working Potomac center, or working at a small ATCT such as HTS in Huntington, WV which is the airport on the hill at We are Marshall or even between the trees at Hilton Head Island, SC (HHI). Even private ATCTs require the same certifications as the FAA.

…and then you retire at 60 and live the next 12-35 years on a comfy government retirement watching the planes in the sky and reminiscing about directing the pilots and controlling the destiny of hundreds of thousands of lives daily. You and the pilot (and b’tchin’ Betty) are responsible for those lives.

I surf free traffic exchanges to get credit to advertise my business in return. I do not have the money to pay to advertise because I am just starting out. If anyone knows of some really good sites that I can join that will bring results, I would really appreciate it.

This website is great for web advertising. It’s a free targeted advertising (based on you selecting various categories you would like to be included in) and link exchange network. You put other websites text ads on your page and yours appears on others. And it really is 100% free, forever. While it’s not something that guarantees traffic it also doesn’t cost anything, so why not try it?

The best way for instant traffic is start a Pay Per Click campaign on any of the search engines. I have all summer to do whatever I want, so I’ve decided I’m going to teach myself another coding language (I already know PHP, HTML, CSS). I want to be able to create rich Web 2.0 like sites for lack of a better word. What coding language is best for this? AJAX?

Note that AJAX is not a language, it’s a technique that is useful for doing rich web application. Pretty much any web programming language can do AJAX.

Since you already know PHP, I would recommend looking at one of the ASP.NET languages, either C# or VB.NET. No matter what language you learn you are also going to need to learn Javascript for the client side coding.
